This is not really a state issue (except in terms of Federal intrusion via Medicare and Medicaid), but the lack of a price system is a destroyer of markets everywhere and anywhere. The medical field is no different.

To “fix” healthcare in the United States we must:

  • End the employer post-tax benefit to let people buy their own insurance.
  • Allow for large HAS (Health Savings Accounts), this will allow insurance to be insurance and not prepaid healthcare.
  • Allow insurance companies to sell policies across state lines.
  • Institute “loser pays” (or loser might pay) tort reform in medical malpractice claims.

A good place to start would also be to read John C. Goodman’s book.
